How does a homeschool co-op work? Am I expected to teach?

A co-op is designed to help everyone meet their needs by drawing on each other's strengths and supporting one another's weaknesses. For this reason, each family (one parent and participating children) contributes by attending co-op weekly and by teaching and assisting classes. The participating parent will be assigned (based on their preference and the co-op's needs) 1-2 classes to teach and 1-2 classes to assist, for the school year. This teaching/assisting assignment is the same all year and support is provided to help choose lesson plans, curriculum, classroom management, etc.

How will I be supported academically the other days of the week?

Students will receive instruction on co-op days and then be provided with follow-up activities and assignments to complete at home on the other four days of the week. Students can expect at-home assignments beginning in 3rd Grade (optional for 2nd Grade) and for the assignments to increase in quantity and difficulty as they rise in grade levels. Recording grades begins in 7th grade.

How will I keep track of all of the assignments and projects and grades, oh my!?

We use an online school platform called Moodle to help families stay organized. Each class has its own course page where teachers can post announcements, information, or assignments. Teachers and students can have email linked to Moodle to help with communication. Grades and assignments are posted to Moodle weekly, and parent and student are expected to check their classes to remain knowledgeable about each class's assignments.

Would it be possible for me and my child(ren) to visit Character?
